A brace of brighter days here in London has blessed our floor with an abundance of much-appreciated natural light and given the fact that the gaffer has just departed on a flight towards the continent, my mind could be forgiven for wandering back to a sunnier period spent in Spain last week. However, this daydreaming was short lived after recalling that I fell victim to some unexpected overspend in Marbella, ultimately leading me to the discovery of an article on a Romanian-Australian economist…

Panicky times for dealing desks around the City today… Not the geopolitical events which rumble on or the heightened volatility that comes with it. I’m talking of course of the street wide Bloomberg issues that happened over lunchtime and meant people had to actually speak to each other. Can you even imagine?! We love picking up the phone at Redburn Atlantic of course and we’re lucky enough to always have something to talk about but it’s safe to say that post pandemic there are a few out there…

Right – well that’s the first day of Q4 complete and what a start it was. It began on a relatively quiet note, with most of Asia shut and a hesitant feel to markets following some slightly hawkish commentary from Jerome Powell last night. On the flip side, plenty of noise could be found on the 7th floor of Capital House, which played host to an orchestra of power drills, furniture assembly and various other fun new machine noises which kept us all on our toes as investors listened to Christine…

Plenty of chaos change this morning here at Redburn Atlantic as we completed our first full day in our new office, and a special thanks is owed to all who helped get the show up and running today and ensuring that we started fresh beginnings on the right foot. Out with the old and in with the new, as the saying goes, and the direction of European equities during today’s session was less smooth, as we pulled back from Friday’s fresh ATHs to conclude Month & Quarter end on a down-day. Sentiment w…

Good things come to those who wait *apparently* and given the fact that Halloween is just around the corner, here’s to hoping that the Fed can gift us with some early fireworks later to kick things into gear after what has been a relatively muted September thus far. No doubt that there is lots to play for, equities are a stones throw away from all-time highs, the Yen is hovering just above 141.7 (Aug’s carry-trade unwind level) and the CNN fear & greed indicator has flipped back into ‘Greed’ fo…

Now obviously it’s a sackable offence to start talking about Christmas while the clocks haven’t even gone back yet, but here at the Snapshot we can tick one thing off your to-do list. Yes, your Christmas presents are sorted. Look no further than a new entrant to the jewellery market with sausage roll earrings that are surely the look for every aspiring model at London Fashion Week. Silly season hopefully coming to an end in the papers with this story and the real news begins this evening of cou…

Twas’ a dreary old day in London, with some early samples of the yellow thunderstorm which is supposedly on its way and times like these normally call for some home comforts. A pint of Guiness normally does the trick for myself and given the strong response rate to the biscuit survey in previous editions of the Snapshot, it seems only right to get some feedback on where the best glass of Guiness can be sourced in London? My choice would have to be the Sheephaven Bay (I am possibly biased) but v…

Well there was never really doubt where we were headed today was there? Appetite for risk has completely absconded with a plethora of reasons for mkt concern and our charts wizards are on the ball as always with important levels to be aware of now that Sept seasonality looks to be well underway. We kicked off proceedings on the back of a pretty bleak handover from the US, which saw the SOX index fail to clear its 50dma alongside fresh new lows for the Mag7 which is now a relative underperformer…

It feels like the words ‘wait and see’ have been haunting those behind the screen here in Europe for quite some time now and as we exit the ‘end-of-summer lull’, those hoping to trade some daylight hours in exchange for an uptick in volumes may have found small respite in participation levels improving vs the 5 &10d ma’s today, but sadly well below the 20d as much of today’s session was spent waiting for US mkts to reopen following Labor day. Mean reversion was behind most early moves, as yday…

Well it felt like we were trundling down a narrow creek for the earlier part of today’s session, trickling along off early lows, with volumes light ahead of the latest weekly US jobs data which is normally nothing to write home about but felt firmly in the spotlight today as angst continued to linger following last week’s soft NFP number. Further publications around a US recession this morning did little to quell fears, with yesterday’s bounce feeling largely in the rear-view mirror.. that is,…
